The motif of HFM2006 logo and the title figure

The motif of HFM2006 logo:

      The motif of HFM2006 logo is made from triangles of a primitive frustration unit in a hexagon. The arrows indicate the frustrated spins. The bottom castle is Osaka castle, which is the great symbol of Osaka and has been built by the Shogun Hideyoshi Toyotomi in end of 16th century. It has a history of more than 400 years. Special features of Osaka castle are that it has three stages and 8 floors, which does provide a good view over Osaka.

      The motif of the HFM2006 title figure is based on the triangular lattice and the Kagome lattice. Japanese character - kagome (Kanji)The Kagome lattice is a Japanese traditional woven pattern of bamboo basket. The word Kagome consists of the woven pattern (me) of bamboo basket (kago). The Kagome lattice can be seen also in patterns of cut glass, cloths and other things even now in Japan. You may find Kagome in the famous brand of a Japanese tomato source company established in 1899, which is called Kagome since 1963. Japanese character - kagome (katakana)The Kagome lattice as a scientific term was named by Prof. Husimi of Osaka University. His coworker Shôzi published the first Kagome paper entitled as "Statistics of Kagome Lattice" in Progress of Theoretical Physics in 1951 [I. Syôzi Prog. Theor. Phys., 6, 306 (1951)]. Prof. Syôzi passed away in 2001 at the age of 81. But the word, Kagome, survives among us.

      HFM2006 will be held at Osaka University closely connected with Prof. Shôzi. We employ the Kagome lattice as the motif of the title figure in memory of his achievements.
